Lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel
Alec Waxman portrays subjects in unconventional social and intimate contexts. In his paintings, homoerotic undertones relay fantasy and dream-like imagery that conjures nostalgia and a sense of fun. In addition to producing figurative work, Alec plays with abstraction in color and form in seascapes that are inspired by time spent on and around Gardiner’s Bay, NY.
Since relocating to Tel Aviv in 2021, Waxman has drawn inspiration from Israel's diverse topography and population. In his paintings, he incorporates figures and symbols that embody the seemingly contradictory characteristics of Israeli society: simultaneously Eastern and Western, modern and traditional, religious and secular, calm and chaotic. His most recent works can be characterized as surrealist landscapes inspired by time spent in Israel’s desert region.
